Artificial Intelligence in Indian Education: Transforming Teaching and Learning for the Digital Age

Abstract

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education has emerged as a transformative force, reshaping traditional teaching and learning practices globally. In this study we explore the impact of AI on the Indian education system, emphasizing its potential to address critical challenges such as accessibility, personalization and quality of education. By adopting a descriptive research approach we analyzed the current state of AI adoption in Indian schools and universities, highlighting innovative tools and practices that enhance learning outcomes. The findings reveal how AI-powered solutions such as adaptive learning platforms, virtual tutors and automated administrative processes are fostering personalized learning experiences and reducing the workload of educators. However the study also identifies significant barriers, including the digital divide, infrastructural limitations and ethical concerns around data privacy. Aligning AI integration with the National Education Policy 2020, this paper underscores the need for a collaborative approach involving policymakers, educators and technology providers to maximize the benefits of AI in Indian education. The study concludes with actionable recommendations to overcome challenges and harness AI's potential to revolutionize teaching and learning in India, ensuring an equitable and future-ready education system.
