Pressure Relief Valve Design and Optimization for Small Hydro Projects - A Research Perspective

Abstract

This research focuses on the optimization of small hydro projects using Pressure Relief Valves (PRVs) and surge tanks. A case study of a small hydro plant with a PRV on the turbine side of the penstock line is presented. The PRV's performance was tested for different guide vane openings, demonstrating its effectiveness in managing pressure surges and enhancing the safety and stability of the plant. The study highlights the importance of customized PRV design for specific applications and the potential for PRVs to improve the overall efficiency of small hydro projects. Future scope includes exploring advanced PRV designs, integration with other technologies, and cost-effectiveness analysis.
