Abstract

The assessment of the level of lead in a grass pennisetum purpureum growing along Akure-ilesha expressway in Nigeria was carried out using atomic absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS). The concentration of lead in soil and plant on both sides of the road ranged as follows: 5.50-6.o4 and 20.69-32.50, 1.40-8.83 and 7.23-9.37 root, 0.64-4.32 and 1.22-5.02 stem and 0.13-0.95 and 0.09-0.33 in the leaves respectively. The magnification coefficient (MC) ranged between 0.11-0.92 and 0.23-0.35. The concentration of the metal in the plant is in the series root>stem>leaf. The level of the metal in the soil and plant at both sides of the highway was higher than the control (p
